Legend Behind Phulera Dooj
According to Hindu mythological texts, Lord Radha was upset with Lord Krishna since he was not able to meet her due to some work in Vrindavan. Due to this the flowers and cattle in Mathura started dying. When Lord Krishna got to know about this, he left for Mathura immediately. He reached on the second day of the Phalgun month and played Holi with Radha with flowers to uplift her mood.

Significance of Phulera Dooj
On the day of Phulera Dooj, worshiping Lord Lord Krishna and reciting his hymns and mantras is considered very auspicious. It is believed that Lord Krishna showers his blessings on his ardent devotees on this day. The devotees who worship Radha-Krishna with love and reverence on this day, tend to get rid of major problems and obstacles and can lead a life of love, peace and happiness. Worship on the day of Phulera dooj is also believed to negate the harmful effects of grahas doshas. This day is very sacred for auspicious work like marriage, engagement, purchase of property etc.
Phulera Dooj Puja Rituals
- On the day of Phoolera Dooj, the devotees should wake up early in the morning, take a bath and also wear fresh clothes.
- Then the puja place is cleaned, the idols of Lord Radha-Krishna are kept on a clean podium and decorated with fresh flowers.
- The puja is commences on the given muhurat and Gulal ( red colour), Panchamrit and white sweets are offered to the Lord as a part of the bhog.
- The devotees also recite ‘Madhurashtakam’ or ‘Radha Kripa Kataksha’. If it is difficult to recite then one can only chant ‘Radhe Krishna’.
- At the end of the puja, the devotees do shringaar of the idols and receive Prasad.
