The Bhoomi Puja is a customary ritual that is performed before commencing construction or land tilling activities for agricultural purposes. Nature and Mother Earth are considered very auspicious in Hinduism. The puja is done to offer regards and seek blessings of the Goddess before initiating any new task or project. Bhoomi Puja Vidhi-
The spot for Bhoomi Pujan must be cleaned properly with Gangajal after bathing in the morning. While the Puja is commencing, the priest should face the north and the person conducting the puja should face the east. Like any other Puja, Bhoomi Puja too begins with offering prayers to Lord Ganesha, the Vignaharta. Then an oil or ghee lamp is lit. After that, an idol of the snake god and a Kalash are worshipped. This ritual is done to please Snake God and take his approval for beginning the construction works.
In most traditions, water, ghee, mango leaves, curd and honey are added to the Kalash as an offering to Snake God. Then a small portion of the land is dug for the foundation stone or brick to be laid. Finally, Sacred hymes and mantras are recited and flowers, akshat, turmeric, sandalwood paste, vermillion, incense sticks and fruits are offered to the Lord in order.
