Rang Panchami is a famous Hindu religious festival which is observed 5 days after the celebration of Holi. It’s considered as an important festival in the Indian states of Bihar, UP, MP, Maharashtra etc. As per the Gregorian calendar, Rang Panchami falls on the fifth day of Krishna Paksha during the Phalgun month. Rang Panchami Significance
As we all know, Holika Dahan is observed a day before holi by lighting a huge fire. This religious ritual is believed to burn all negative qualities of an individual, clear the atmosphere and fill the surroundings with purity and positivity. The holy fire is believed to burn all negative qualities including Tamsic and Rajasic traits. Thus, Rang Panchami is observed 5 days after Holi to celebrate the expression of this blissful creation of the pure aura after Holika Dahan. After performing this ritual, one’s pathway to moksha or salvation becomes clear since all the hindrances in the form of negative energies are removed.
Also, as the name rightly suggests, the day of Rang Panchami celebrates the existence of the “Panch Tatva” i.e. the five elements of life. These 5 elements are: Air, Water, land, Sky and Fire. Each one of these elements have their own unique role to play in the existence of human beings and animals. People exchange greetings, sing joyous songs and play with colours on this day to celebrate the triumph of good over evil, peace over destruction.
Puja Rituals
- Wake up early in the morning, have a holy bath and wear fresh clothes.
- Meditate by remembering Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi and take vow to fast by following all the rules.
- Then clean the puja area and place the picture of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu on a clean podium in the north direction.
- Place a copper vessel (kalash) filled with water and light a ghee lamp. Offer a garland of roses to the Lord.
- Chant the mantra ‘Shri Shriye Namah’ by holding a lotus flower in your hands and offer bhog to the deities.
- After duly worshiping, perform the aarti and distribute the prasad. Then sprinkle the water kept in the Kalash in every corner of the house.
