Yogini Ekadashi 2023 Fasting Story
Lord Krishna narrated the story behind Yogini Ekadashi’s fast to Yudhishthira. Once in a city named Alkapuri, a gardener named Hemmali used to work in King Kubera’s kingdom. As per the orders of King Kubera, Hemmali used to bring flowers from Mansarovar every day for the worship of Lord Shiva. One day he brought the flowers, but forgot to give them to the palace and went with his wife for a walk. Due to this, he appeared late in court. When the king got to know about the reason, he became very angry and cursed him that he will get separated from his wife and will get leprosy.
The curse showed its effect and Hemmali got leprosy and his wife left him. One day while wandering, he reached the hermitage of sage Markandeya. Hemmali told about the cause of his plight to the sage. Impressed by Hemali’s honesty, the sage advised him to observe a fast on Yogini Ekadashi. Following the advice of the sage, the gardener kept the fast with full rituals and with the effect of the fast, his plight and suffering came to an end. His leprosy got cured. And, in the end, he attained salvation.
