Mythological Story Behind Shani Jayanti

Shani is not only a deity but also a major planet (Saturn) among the Navagrahas. According to astrology, Lord Shani is said to hold great power. Shani Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Shani. Shani is the eldest son of Lord Surya, one of the Navagrahas. Shri Kashyap Rishi had many wives but he loved his wife named ‘Aditi’ the most. Lord Surya was born as the son of ‘Aditi’. He married two women named Saranyu and Suvarna, who were the daughters of Devashilpi Vishwakarma.

Once Suvarna did severe penance to get the blessings of Lord Shiva by giving up on food and water. Due to this, her unborn child became black in colour in her womb. Upon the birth of Lord Shani, Lord Surya didn’t accept him as his son. When Lord Shani came to know about this, he was deeply saddened and did severe penance to please Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was finally pleased with his harsh penance and placed him among the Navagrahas and made him the Lord of Justice. It is considered extremely auspicious to read the Shani Jayanti vrat Katha on Shani Jayanti 2023.

Remedies To Avoid Troubles in Shani Sade Sati and Dhaiya and Mahadasha

During Shani Sade Sati, a devotee can get auspicious results by worshiping Shani Dev on every Shani Jayanti with full dedication and by adhering to all the rituals. Donating things related to Shani Dev like oil, black urad, black clothes, black blankets etc. on this day helps to get rid of the effects of Shani Mahadasha.
Devotees should get rid of their lazy nature and work hard. Doing wrong things or telling lies should be avoided during this period. Reciting Shani Chalisa on every Saturday is considered auspicious and fruitful.
Shani Dev is also pleased with the devotees who worship Lord Shankar and Lord Hanuman on Saturday. Worshipping these deities on Saturday helps us to avoid the malefic effects of Mahadasha, Sade Sati and Dhaiya.
Worshipping the Peepal tree on every  Saturday and on every Shani Trayodashi is considered fruitful. A mustard oil should also be lit in front of the Peepal tree.
Devotees should Chant the Shani Mantra “Om Shanishcharaya Namah”, for 108 times on Shani Jayanti 2023 to receive the divine grace of Lord Shani and avoid the pain of Shani Sade Sati.
